What Does an Arborist Report Cost in Florida?
If you've been told you need an arborist report — by your HOA, your insurance company, an attorney, or a municipality — your first question is probably: what is this going to cost me?
It's a fair question, and one that doesn't have a single answer. Here's what actually affects the cost of an arborist report in Florida, and what you should expect to pay.
What type of report do you need?
Not all arborist reports are the same. The cost depends heavily on what the report is for:
Tree risk assessment report — A formal, written evaluation of a specific tree's structural integrity, likelihood of failure, and risk to people or property. These are commonly requested by homeowners, HOAs, insurance adjusters, and attorneys. In Central Florida, expect to pay anywhere from $150 to $400 depending on the number of trees and complexity of the site.
Tree appraisal and valuation report — Used for insurance claims, property disputes, storm damage documentation, and litigation. These require additional research and follow CTLA methodology. Pricing typically starts around $300 and goes up based on the number of trees and intended use.
Permit and compliance reports — Required by municipalities or HOAs for tree removal, construction near protected trees, or development projects. Pricing varies based on the scope of the inventory and documentation required.
Expert opinion reports for litigation — Prepared for attorneys and legal proceedings. These are the most detailed and time-intensive reports and are priced accordingly.
What affects the price?
Number of trees — A single tree assessment costs less than a multi-tree inventory.
Site complexity — A tree in an open yard is simpler to assess than one in a confined space, over a structure, or in a sensitive area.
Report purpose — A report prepared for legal or insurance use requires more documentation and professional liability than a basic homeowner consultation.
Turnaround time — If you need a report quickly for an HOA deadline or insurance claim, expedited service may affect pricing.
What you should NOT do
Don't hire the cheapest option without verifying credentials. An arborist report is only as defensible as the person who wrote it. If your HOA, insurance carrier, or attorney is going to rely on that report, it needs to be prepared by an ISA Certified Arborist — ideally one with TRAQ qualification for risk assessments.
A report from an uncredentialed tree service may be rejected outright, costing you more time and money in the long run.
